This little announcement in the classified section of The Charleston Gazette explained to me why I could never locate a death certificate for America Jane (Stevens) Brugh.
She past away in Jacksonville, Florida. With this new information, I needed someone to do a obituary lookup.
I contacted Anne Velez at RootsWeb and she sent the obituary below.
This obituary provided by Anne Velez.
This obituary provides some new information. I did not know that she
was from Montgomery, West Virginia. I also did not know that she was
a member of the Eastern Star. But that really does not surprise me. It seems
that being a member of the freemasons, was very common among the Crago and Brugh families.
Notes:
America Jane Stevens was twice married. First to Hudson Lake Brugh, and later to Reverend Benjamin Bowling.
The above obituary shows the surname spelled Boling, which may be correct. Both spellings of the surname are common in the Charleston, West Virginia area.
Also from this obituary I was able to locate a death certificate for her sister Mary (Stevens) Davis.
That provided the names of the parents, Thomas Stevens and America Withrow.
With this new information I soon learned that Thomas B. Stevens is buried in Poca Varner Cemetery in Raymond City, West Virginia.
As you can see from this link America Jane Boling Brugh is also buried in this cemetery.
I have visited this cemetery and America Jane's marker has been destroyed by vandals, as well as many others.
