OAK HILL - A Fayette County man died Wednesday night in a three-car
collision on U.S. 19 in the city, according to Oak Hill City Police.
Loren Leigh Craigo, 74, of Hilltop, was dead on arrival at Plateau
Medical Center in Oak Hill, investigating Officer Brian Goins said
Thursday.
Craigo was driving south in U.S. 19 when he turned left into the path
of a car driven by Carolyn Blankenship of Oak Hill. The impact knocked
the cars into a third vehicle waiting to turn into the highway.
Blankenship and two female juvenile passenger were treated for
injuries at Plateau Medical Center and released.
An 11-year-old male passenger in Craigo's car was hospitalized, Goins
said.
Craigo was a retired miner from Eastern Associated Coal Co., a member
of the UMW and a Navy veteran of World War II.
Surviving: son, Gary Douglas Craigo of Mount Hope; daughters, Sandra
L. Calvert and Kathy Blaylock, both of Durham, N.C., Beverly Patel of
Greensboro, N.C., Tina Nelson of Oak Hill; five foster children;
sister, Dora Young of Charleston; 21 grandchildren; 32
great-grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with
the Rev. Jesse Parker officiating. Burial will be in High Lawn
Memorial Park, Oak Hill. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at
the funeral home.

HILLTOP - Loren Leigh Craigo, 74, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, in an
Oak Hill Medical Center following injuries received in an automobile
accident.
Born April 1, 1925, in Kanawha County, he was the son of the late Elbin
and Gladys Brown Craigo.
Mr. Craigo was employed by Eastern Associated Coal Corp., having
retired as a miner.
He was a member of the UMWA of Morris Creek. He was a World War II U.S.
Navy veteran.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet Irene Johnson Craigo, on
May 26, 1999.
Survivors include a son, Gary Douglas Craigo and his wife, Patty, of
Mount Hope; four daughters, Sandra L. Calvert and Kathy Blaylock, both
of Durham, N.C., Beverly Patel of Greensboro, N.C., and Tina Nelson and
her husband, Donald, of Oak Hill; five foster children, Zelma Reid of
Mount Hope, Richard Craigo and Ted Allen Craigo, both of Oak Hill,
Sheila Donnally of Fayetteville and Pat Deal of Beckley; 21
grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dora Young of
Charleston.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill,
with the Rev. Jesse Parker officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn
Memorial Park, Oak Hill.
