Notes:
Robert was still living at home in Plymouth when he married Crystal Edith Craigo
in 1933. They were married at the home of Simon Craigo by R.L. Gibson. Witnesses
were his brother Andrew "Chum" Ingram and her sister Elizabeth "Lib" Craigo. The
two families (Robert and his parents) continued to share a home until 1949. His
father died in 1940. In early 1941 the family moved back to Plymouth. Robert was
employed at the same mine (as his father had been), having quit school at
fifteen years of age to join his father and uncles in the coal mines. In
February, 1942 the mine "blew out" (ceased operating) and Robert moved his
family down river a few miles to Hometown, WV and began work for Monsanto
Chemical Co. in Nitro, WV. In May, 1945 another move was made to 3417-34th
Street, Nitro, WV. In the summer of 1949, Robert moved the family to the lower
end of Nitro at Dudding Lane, where he had built a house. His mother Clester,
being in failing health at this time went to live with her son, Andrew "Chum"
Ingram at 2806-28th Street, Nitro, WV. She died while living there, in February,
1950 in her 87th year. Robert and Crystal moved back to Hometown in 1959, when
the Interstate 64 construction purchased his Dudding Lane property. Robert
retired from Monsanto Chemical Co. in 1974. Crystal worked for Embees Department
Store in Charleston, WV for several years after Robert's retirement. She
developed leukemia in the fall of 1982. As her health deteriorated and she
became too weak to keep house, she and Robert went to live with their son,
Daniel, at Scott Depot, WV. Here Crystal died on August 13, 1983. Robert lived
with his children until suffering a stroke in January 1985 while living with his
daughter, Nancy in New Martinsville, WV. Following hospitalization and
rehabilitation therapy at Peterson Hospital in Wheeling, WV, he resided at the
New Martinsville Health Care Center until his death at Wetzel County Hospital on
May 30, 1987.
